Gabriel Vega Weissman

Gabriel Vega Weissman is an award-winning theatre director and filmmaker based in New York City.

​

His Off-Broadway and regional directing work includes 2:22 A Ghost Story (Lucille Lortel Theatre, Off-Broadway Fall 2026, following runs in the West End, Melbourne, and a UK Tour); Guards at the Taj (Central Square Theatre, Cambridge, MA — Boston Globe Top 10 Theatre of 2018); and Charles Cissel's MUST (Theatre at St. Clements, produced by Bruce Willis). He has directed and developed new work with New York Theatre Workshop, Atlantic Theater Company, American Repertory Theater, Williamstown Theatre Festival, Hangar Theatre, Northern Stage, San Diego REP, National Black Theatre, Castillo Theatre, BRIC, Pipeline Theatre Company, SPACE on Ryder Farm, and NYMF. He has collaborated with Emmy-nominated actor and musician Tituss Burgess on concert events at the Kennedy Center and Carnegie Hall.

Gabriel's directing work also extends to film. His short film "Half-Cocked" was completed in 2025 and is currently on the festival circuit.

Gabriel offers private acting coaching and has taught at the Juilliard School, NYU Tisch School of the Arts, Mason Gross School of the Arts, Atlantic Theater Company's Acting School, Hangar Theatre, and the University of Scranton.

He is an alum of the Drama League Directors Project, Lincoln Center Directors Lab, Manhattan Theatre Club Directing Fellowship, Williamstown Theatre Festival Professional Training Program, and New York Theatre Workshop 2050 Fellowship, and was a finalist for the inaugural Eugene O'Neill Theater Center National Directors Fellowship in 2015. He is a New York Theatre Workshop Usual Suspect.

With Brian Reno, Gabriel co-wrote Loose Canon, a collection of short plays, and an adaptation of Aristophanes' The Birds — both licensed and published by Dramatists Play Service, Inc., and performed across the country and internationally.

He is a member of the Dramatists Guild and the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society.
